Values
IDEA aims to enhance dual degree engineering education in the Atlanta University Center while adhering to AUCC foundational values. They are:
The mission of the Atlanta University Center Consortium is to promote collaboration and involvement among our campuses, residents and other stakeholders in enhancing the quality of life within the neighboring community. The Consortium seeks to leverage the resources of the community and of member institutions to maximize opportunities for citizens to live, learn, work and play.
The mission of IDEA is to increase the number of dual degree engineering program graduates in the AUC and nationally prepared for engineering careers, resilient with high engineering identity, and impactful on society and their community. Engineering identity is the ability to view oneself as an engineer and has been linked to academic and professional persistence of Black students. The institute will assess outcomes to ensure best practices and continual improvement.
The values of IDEA therefore mirror these pillars. The values are as follows:
- IDEA exists to help advance each institution’s strategic priorities and goals.
- IDEA is student centered.
- IDEA prioritizes clear and open communication for the sake of transparency and understanding.
- IDEA is forward thinking and outcome driven. The initiatives outcomes will be regularly assessed.
- IDEA is committed to operational excellence, especially of the dual degree engineering program.
These values are intentionally embedded in all IDEA initiatives and efforts. Continual improvement of IDEA and its effectiveness improving DDEP will be centered around these values
